Northwoods Climate Change Debate
Hosted by: Northwoods Patriots
January 30 -- 12 noon
Northland Pines High School Auditorium
Event is Free, Non-Partisan, and Open to Public
All are encouraged to attend
Climate change issues are stirring heated discussions across all continents these days, and to bring the issue close to home, the Northwoods Patriots group located in Vilas County is hosting a Northwoods Climate Change Debate January 30, beginning at 12:00 noon at the Northland Pines High School in Eagle River, Wisconsin. This is an event that will offer all who attend the opportunity to listen, learn and decide for themselves the truth about the important issue of Anthropogenic Climate Change in our world. The facts and the history of both sides of the issue will be presented, discussed, and debated in a fair and balanced forum that will include audience participation. The event is free, non-partisan and open to the public. Everyone is encouraged to attend. The doors will open at 11:30 am.
Special Invitations have been sent to 220 high schools from mid-Wisconsin north, including the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, to encourage participation by area youth as well, as this is a watershed issue that will affect their lives for years to come. The event organizers believe it is vitally important that our youth are involved in this debate and given the opportunity to form their own opinions on what is being presented as they are the future of our country. School faculty and School Board Members have also been invited and encouraged to attend.
Everyone who attends will walk away with a more in-depth knowledge of just what both sides of the scientific world are claiming regarding changes to our climate and what affect this will have on our future. Handouts will be available.
The event will begin at noon with the viewing of two short films to lay the foundations for both sides of the Climate Change Debate Issue. At 1:15 a panel of distinguished, nationally-recognized scientists will respond to questions from Moderator John McCaugh. In addition, with the event's special emphasis on area youth, students who have submitted questions upon entering the forum will also be able to pose questions to the panel of experts.
Questions will also be taken from the general audience.
Confirmed Panel Participants include Dr. Willie Soon, Astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. (The views expressed by Dr. Soons are strictly his and do not necessarily reflect those of Harvard University, the Smithsonian Institution, or the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics)
Dr. David Legates, Delaware State Climatologist, Associate Professor of Geography, Ocean Science and Engineering at the University of Delaware and the former director of Climate Research at the same university.
Please share with friends, neighbors, co-workers and students too!
